SPARK, the education foundation for Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS), recently hosted its annual SPARKing STEAM/Introduce A Girl to STEAM event. The event, attended by nearly 300 middle school students, showcased presenters and sponsors from the top science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) industries in the community.

Presenters from Lockheed Martin to the Hylton Performing Arts Center spoke on the most relevant STEAM fields and how students can begin to follow the pathway to workforce development.

The event was kicked off by Dawn Davis, executive director of SPARK, and Gary Simms of Walmart, followed by keynotes from Northern Virginia Community College, and Samaira Mehta, the 12-year-old CEO of CoderMindz and CoderBunnyz, two STEM inspired games.

Students then attended breakout sessions with the presenters and wrapped up the evening with giveaways such as, Nintendo Switches and Beats by Dre headphones.
