Student Activities & Athletics
Welcome to PWCS Student Activities and Athletics! We have compiled some basic information that will help answer most questions for students new to PWCS who want to participate in student activities or athletics. If further information is needed, please call our department at 703-791-7353.
PWCS athletics and some of the student activities are governed by the Virginia High School League, (VHSL). This organization establishes rules for all public school athletic programs in Virginia. PWCS schools belong to one of the following districts: Cardinal, Cedar, or Northwestern. As a member of VHSL, PWCS abides by all established rules and regulations. The division has 13 high schools and 18 middle schools of which all offer athletic programs. Sports are available if there is sufficient participation and demand from the student body. Please go to the schools' search on the PWCS Activities and Athletics website to find the names and locations of all our county’s schools.
High schools offer the following athletic activities: baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, field hockey, football, golf, gymnastics, indoor track, lacrosse, outdoor track, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track, volleyball, and wrestling.
Middle schools offer the following sports: baseball, basketball, cheerleading, football, soccer, softball, track, volleyball, and wrestling.
Student activities are offered in all our middle and high schools, depending on student demand and participation. The county provides school-sponsored clubs, as well as Equal Access clubs.
