PWCS appoints Shakeel Yusuf as Chief Financial Officer

Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) has appointed Shakeel Yusuf as Chief Financial Officer, replacing John Wallingford, who retires from the position October 31, 2023. Reporting to the Superintendent, and as a member of the Superintendent’s cabinet, Yusuf will oversee the PWCS departments of finance and budget for PWCS including management of PWCS’ $1.5 billion operating budget.

Yusuf most recently served as Director of Finance for PWCS. In this role he is responsible for PWCS financial operations including reporting, payroll, and procurement. Additionally, he worked on the development of the Capital Project Policy Framework and the upgrade of PWCS’ enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution to a cloud-based system.

Before PWCS, Yusuf led and directed the financial and accounting activities for Fairfax County Public Schools, the 10th largest school district in the nation, with a $3.2 billion operating budget. He also has significant experience with not-for-profits and started his career with a big four public accounting firm. 

Yusuf has been a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants since 1988 and is a Certified Public Accountant. He served on the Virginia Government Finance Officers Board from 2008 to 2009. He is currently a member of the Government Finance Officers Association’s Accounting and Auditing and Reporting committee.

Yusuf graduated from the University of Queensland, Australia, with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and earned his master’s in finance from Benjamin Franklin University, now part of George Washington University.
