The Prince William County School Board has adopted the 2024-25 school calendar. The approved Option A calendar aligns with community and staff survey results, providing a full two weeks at winter break and a teacher workday following spring break.

The 2024-25 school calendar’s first day of school for students will be August 19, 2024, and the last day of school will be June 12, 2025. Schools will be closed for winter break from December 23, 2024, through January 3, 2025. Schools will reopen on January 6, 2025. Spring break will be observed April 14-21, 2025.

In September, the Calendar Committee—comprised of parents, students, teachers, school administrators, and central office staff—met to discuss, revise, and develop options for the 2024-25 school calendar. The annual instructional calendar is 180 days long. School divisions can begin as early as two weeks before Labor Day and must have a four-day Labor Day weekend for students. The starting point for the 2024-25 calendar begins before Labor Day, incorporating the four-day weekend for teachers and students.

In a commitment to cultural inclusivity, PWCS added four holidays in the 2021-22 school calendar, which remained in the subsequent 2022-23 and 2023-24 calendars. PWCS intends to preserve these holidays in the 2024-25 calendar if they impact an instructional day.

Between September 28 and October 9, the 2024-25 school calendar survey was available for comment by students, parents, and staff. The survey included three options for the school calendar. Option A received favorable votes from students, parents, and staff. The results were presented to the School Board, and the final decision for option A was made.
