Prince William County Public Schools graduate dressed in a cap and gown on her graduation day

Dear PWCS Families, Employees, and Community,

Congratulations to our two seniors, Anjali Ghafoerkhan of Gar-Field High School and Marakie Yilekal of Osbourn Park High School, for earning the prestigious Harry B. Byrd, Jr. Leadership Award. Among only 11 students statewide, our outstanding students will each receive a $25,000 scholarship for their exemplary demonstration of character, leadership, devotion to duty, and academic accomplishment.

The recognition of our students for this leadership award underscores the work PWCS is doing to prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and habits of mind necessary to create a thriving future for themselves and their community.

On Wednesday, February 21, the School Board held an official FY2025 Budget/CIP public hearing. I want to thank everyone who provided their perspectives, insights, and feedback. A final School Board work session will be conducted on March 13. Upon approval, the School Board will submit the FY 2025 Budget/CIP to the Prince William County Board of County Supervisors. Additional information may be found on our website for the Proposed FY2025 Budget.

Additionally, our School Board learned more about the personalized, electronic Student Vision Profiles that will become available to all students/families in grades 6-12 in the next few weeks. These profiles are designed to support postsecondary planning conversations at home and to engage families in the essential steps students take toward launching a successful future. All families will receive a notification once the Student Vision Profiles become available. All reports will be accessible via an active ParentVUE account.

As a reminder, March 5 is a student holiday and staff workday. In anticipation of the volume of voters for the presidential primary, Prince William County Office of Elections requested that PWCS close schools due to matters of safety and logistical considerations.

Sincerely,
