Diverse group of three Potomac Shores Middle School Students

Dear PWCS Families, Employees, and Community,

From the first day of kindergarten to the last step off the stage at graduation, our students embark on an epic quest to gain the knowledge, skills, and habits of mind necessary to create a thriving future for themselves and their community. In PWCS, it is our responsibility to ensure that our students Level Up every day through their attendance in our classrooms, achieving academic excellence, personal growth, and lifelong learning.

In the spirit of a commitment to continuous improvement, last Wednesday, I presented an update to the School Board on the PWCS 2025 Vision Launching Thriving Futures Strategic Plan. The presentation offers valuable insights into our progress over these past two years and highlights the achievements, challenges, and opportunities that lie before us as we work together to ensure every child’s success.

From innovative teaching methods to enhanced support systems, your collective efforts have set in motion a divisionwide transformation that is both inspiring and promising. You helped raise SOL scores, specifically the 17% increase in math and 9% increase in science over two years, you encouraged the 9% increase in students from underrepresented groups accessing and exceling in advanced classes, and your students earned an impressive 12,235 total credentials in Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses. Whether you are a dedicated educator, a supportive family member, or a valued community partner, your contributions are essential to the success of every PWCS student.

As we find ourselves halfway through the story of our Strategic Plan, it is important to reflect on how far we have come and to recommit ourselves to the work that lies ahead. Over the next two years, we must continue to build on our momentum, overcome our challenges, and reinvent our classrooms to ensure that every student can reach their full potential.

We are proud of the work that has been accomplished in our schools and in our school division, while acknowledging that there is still work to be done. I am proud to be the Superintendent for Prince William County Public Schools and confident that upon the completion of our Vision 2025 Strategic Plan, we will have much more to celebrate.

Thank you once again for your outstanding contributions to Prince William County Public Schools. Together, we can finish the story strong and continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students and the strength of our PWCS community.

Sincerely,
