Four students (three standing, one sitting) in front of a laptop in a school classroom

Dear PWCS Families, Employees, and Community,

With Spring Break behind us, I encourage our families to prepare for the future by exploring the many learning opportunities available to students through our Summer School Programs. PWCS offers both an academic recovery program and an enrichment program for students in grades kindergarten through 12. Registration will open April 9 for academic programs in elementary, middle, and high school, and our Discovery Enrichment program.

Additionally, Virtual Prince William offers a summer session for students to take courses for initial credit. The virtual learning program offers students the chance to take courses online to complete graduation requirements, recover credits, and balance academic and extracurricular opportunities in the summer and throughout the academic school year.

The Divisionwide Climate and Culture Survey is open, and responses will be accepted until Friday, April 19. Survey invitations were sent Monday, April 1 by email to staff and email and text to families. Please take advantage of this opportunity to provide direct feedback on your experience in PWCS. Information from the surveys will be used in Strategic Plan progress monitoring and Continuous Improvement efforts. It is essential that we hear from everyone in our community, so please contact [email protected] with any questions or concerns regarding the completion of the survey.

April includes several observances, and PWCS would like to recognize National Autism Awareness Month. I appreciate the strides being made in our schools to provide support to our students with autism to ensure they thrive in our schools and in our community. I urge our staff, families, and community members to take the lead for promoting autism awareness and acceptance for the thousands of extraordinary individuals facing an autism diagnosis every year, like the outstanding example of inclusivity I had the privilege of being a part of at Mary Williams Elementary School on World Autism Day.

Please join us for the Employment and Summer Job Fair from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, April 8, at Charles J. Colgan Sr. High School. This job fair is designed for students looking for work during the summer or after graduation. With 52 registered business partners, we look forward to our students earning early job and interview offers.

As a reminder, next Tuesday, April 9 is a Teacher Workday and there will be no school for students. On Wednesday, April 10, schools and offices are closed in observance of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the fasting that occurs during Ramadan.

Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable weekend.

Sincerely,
