Safety and Training

Safety and Training

The Safety and Training Section oversees new bus driver and attendant applications, initial training, continuing education, and safety statistics. We work closely with the Virginia State Police, FBI, and various other county and state departments.

Driver training is provided by certified trainers employed by Prince William County Public Schools. Our trainers are highly skilled professionals versed in classroom and on-road training, and Virginia's first driving simulator used for training professional school bus drivers.

Training for new applicants

Our main office is located at the New Dominion Transportation Center, with training classrooms located throughout the county. The direct phone number is 571-402-3868

Applicants receive training including:

  • Bus operations;
  • Defensive driving;
  • Bloodborne pathogens;
  • First aid;
  • Map reading; and
  • CPR

Continuing Education

Each professional driver and assistant are required to maintain their level of expertise with continuing education. Excellence doesn't end when you become a driver, it just begins.
