Dear PWCS Families, Employees, and Community,
I am excited to share the recent news that Foundry’s Computerworld has recognized PWCS as a 2024 Best Place to Work in Information Technology (IT), including ranking 9th in diversity among large organizations. The award is a testament to the incredible dedication and hard work our technology staff members demonstrate every day in support of students, colleagues, and families. The challenge to maintain regular attendance and stave off chronic absenteeism often coincides with the winter holiday season. I also understand the impact of student accountability for attending school each day. As we work together to reduce chronic absenteeism, student input is crucial to the problem-solving efforts. PWCS held our first-ever attendance theme competition, and our high school students cast about 4,000 votes for more than 400 submissions. The winning submission, “Knowledge is Power, Attend Every Hour,” was submitted by Forest Park High School senior, Samuel Knorr. I welcome you to learn more about this story on our website.
As next week is National Inclusive Schools Week, I encourage our community to reflect upon our commitment to providing a positive climate and culture. I want to reaffirm our core value to the inclusivity of all staff and students. This year’s theme, “Draw Me In,” is a reminder of the importance of participation, expression, and representation in our relationships, environments, and curriculums. PWCS will always treat every community member with kindness, compassion, and respect for their perspective, well-being, and individuality.
Before closing, I want to extend my congratulations to Brentsville District High School for advancing to the Class 3 VHSL State football semifinal and to Freedom High School for advancing to the Class 6 VHSL State football semifinal. Both teams will proudly represent PWCS tomorrow, December 2. We will be cheering our student athletes to victory.
