Welcome to Student Activities

We welcome you to the Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS). We have compiled some basic information that will help answer most questions for new students to PWCS that would like to participate in student activities or athletics. If further information is needed, please call our department at 703-791-7353.

PWCS athletics and some of the student activities are governed by the Virginia High School League, (VHSL). This organization establishes rules and regulations for all public-school athletic programs in the state of Virginia.  PWCS schools belong to one of the following districts: Cardinal, Cedar, or Northwestern. As a member of VHSL, PWCS abides by all established rules and regulations. Visit the VHSL website for further information.

The Division has 13 high schools and 17 middle schools of which all offer athletic programs. Sports are available, if there is sufficient participation and demand by the student body. Please go to school's search on our main website to find the names and locations of all our county’s schools.

High schools offer the following athletic activities: baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, field hockey, football, golf, indoor track, lacrosse, outdoor track, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track, volleyball, and wrestling.

Middle schools offer the following sports: baseball, basketball, cheerleading, football, soccer, softball, track, volleyball, and wrestling.

Student activities are offered in all our middle and high schools, depending on student demand and participation. The county provides school-sponsored clubs, as well as Equal Access clubs. Want to know more?  Contact the high school’s director of student activities or the athletic coordinator for the middle schools for more information.
