Standards of Accreditation Payments

2023-24

The Virginia Standards of Accreditation (8VA20-131-240) require school divisions to compensate middle and high school teachers whose student counts exceed stated weekly limits. Those limits are 200 students for music and physical education teachers and 150 for non-music and non-physical education teachers. The chart represents the combined compensation for first and second semester.

Middle and High School Music and Physical Education Teachers

Student Count Range Payment for Year
201-250 $1,500
251-300 $3,000
301-350 $4,500
351-400 $6,000

Middle and High School Non-Music and Non-Physical Education Teachers

Student Count Range Payment for Year
151-188 $1,500
189-225 $3,000
226-263 $4,500
264-300 $6,000

Eligibility for first semester compensation will be determined by averaging the teacher-student count totals from first quarter (October 27) with totals from second quarter (January 26). The anticipated date for payout for the first semester is March 15, 2024.

Eligibility for the second semester compensation will be determined by averaging the teacher-student count totals from third quarter (March 1) with totals from fourth quarter (May 3). The anticipated payout date for the second semester is June 14, 2024.

Teachers teaching a sixth section are eligible for additional compensation if their student count totals exceed 240 students for music and physical education, and 180 students for non-music and non-physical education teachers.
